CIPC – Change in Company Name
Companies are allowed to change their registered name. A company name change follows a similar process to a new company registration in that, a name must first be reserved.
A name change is a change to the Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI), therefore, a special resolution must be adopted at a shareholders meeting authorising the name change. Once a name reservation has been approved, the company must lodge a notice of amendment of the memorandum of incorporation (cor15.2).
Please Note:
CIPC turnaround times differ depending on their workload and as such we sometimes experience delays with the registration process. As much as the process has definitely become easier and shorter, the name change process can take up to 10 days.
